Terms of use.
The agreement between you and Analogue Industries Limited for using Stub, its account and this website. It sits beside Apple’s own licence for apps from the App Store.

1About these terms
1.1These Terms.
These Terms of Use (the Terms) are an agreement between you and Analogue Industries Limited, of Aotearoa New Zealand (we, us, our). They govern your use of the Stub app for iPhone (the App), the account and server that support it, the website at keepthestub.app, and any related service we provide (together, Stub).
1.2Agreeing to them.
By creating an account or using Stub, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use Stub.
1.3Apple’s licence.
The App is licensed to you under Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the Apple EULA). These Terms apply in addition to it.
1.4Privacy.
The privacy page says what Stub keeps, why, for how long and who else sees it, and how we handle personal information.
1.5Feature Terms.
A feature may have terms of its own (Feature Terms), shown to you before you first use it. If Feature Terms conflict with these Terms, these Terms apply. Nothing in Feature Terms, or anywhere else, overrides clause 3.
2Definitions
2.1Defined words.
In these Terms:
- Account means your Stub account and the information it holds, as the privacy page describes.
- Ad means any content in the App that a person pays us, or gives us anything of value, to place in front of you.
- Count means a figure we make from the Visits of at least 10 people. A Count is never one person’s Visits and never a record for each person. No one we provide Counts to has access to the Visits they are made from, and we design each release so that Counts can’t be combined, compared or subtracted to reveal anything about fewer than 10 people.
- Drawer means the stubs, photographs, editions and signatures held on your device and in the iCloud account it is signed in to.
- Link means your choice, once Stub offers it, to share your own Visits at a particular cinema with that cinema.
- Sale of Stub means any sale, transfer, merger or other transaction that moves Stub, the business that makes it, or control of either, to another person.
- Sell You means to give, show or make available any information about you alone, whether or not it names you, to any other person for money or anything else of value. A Count is not information about you alone.
- Stub (capitalised) means the service described in clause 1.1. A stub (lower case) means the record of a ticket kept in Stub, and to keep a ticket means to add, read, design, file, share and hold a ticket in Stub, with its card and editions.
- Train AI means to use any information or content to build, train or improve a machine-learning model. Using a model to provide a feature to you, such as reading your ticket on your phone, is not training.
- Visit means the information your Account holds about one time you went to the cinema, at any time of day.
- Your Content means anything you create, add or send in Stub, including your Visits, your Drawer, the names you give drawers and cards, and what you write on the workshop table.
2.2Reading these Terms.
Headings are for convenience only. “Including” means including without limitation. A reference to a clause is to a clause of these Terms.
3What we promise
3.1The four nevers.
Stub will never Sell You, never show you an Ad in the App, never charge you to keep a ticket, and never use Your Content, or any other information about you alone, to Train AI, or give, sell or license it to anyone else to Train AI.
3.2What follows from them.
In particular: cinemas, film distributors and others in the film industry receive only Counts, unless you Link a cinema (clause 7); the App carries no advertising, and Stub uses no third-party tracking and no data brokers; and no one pays to be shown, or shown first, in What’s on or Plan a night.
3.3Who they bind.
These promises bind us and anyone who ever owns Stub (clause 15). They prevail over anything else in these Terms and in any Feature Terms.
4Your account
4.1Your age.
You must be at least 16 years old to use Stub. If we learn that an Account belongs to someone under 16, we will close it and delete the information it holds.
4.2One person, one account.
Each Account is for one person. You may sign in with Apple, Google or your email address. You must give accurate information and keep your sign-in to yourself.
4.3What’s done with it.
You are responsible for all activity on your Account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has used it. You are not responsible for activity that results from someone getting into our own systems without permission.
4.4Deleting it.
You may delete your Account at any time, in the App at Your card › Account › Delete account. The privacy page says what that deletes.
5Price and purchases
5.1Free.
Stub is free to use, and keeping a ticket is always free.
5.2Optional extras.
We may offer optional extras to buy, such as the icon drawer: ten app icons for one payment, with no subscription. Each extra is optional, and its price is shown before you buy it.
5.3Through the App Store.
Purchases in the App are made through the App Store, under Apple’s terms. Apple takes the payment and handles refunds, at reportaproblem.apple.com.
6Your content
6.1It’s yours.
You own Your Content. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of it to us.
6.2The licence you give us.
You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process and display Your Content, only:
- to provide Stub to you, and to deliver what you choose to send to other people;
- to make Counts;
- to share your own Visits with a cinema you have Linked, until you remove the Link;
- to keep Stub, and the people who use it, safe, and to find and fix faults; and
- to comply with the law.
6.3Nothing more.
We will not use Your Content for any other purpose without first asking you, and never in breach of clause 3.
6.4Not ours to pass on.
The licence can’t be transferred or sublicensed, except to the service providers the privacy page names, acting only on our instructions, and as clause 15 allows.
6.5When it ends.
The licence ends for anything you delete, except that Counts already made are not affected, and a Visit you have already sent to someone else may remain in their Drawer.
6.6Your right to add it.
You confirm that you have the rights needed to add Your Content to Stub, including any file you bring in from another service.
6.7Taking it with you.
You may export your stubs at any time, as a spreadsheet, at Your card › Advanced › Export as a spreadsheet, and the films you’ve pencilled at Your card › Advanced › Export your list.
7Counts and links
7.1Counts.
We may make Counts from the Visits of everyone who uses Stub, show them in Stub, and provide them to any business or organisation, in the film industry or beyond it, that first signs the licence in clause 7.2.
7.2A licence for every Count.
A Count never includes fewer than 10 people. We provide Counts only to those who first sign a written licence with us that requires them:
- not to try to identify anyone in a Count, alone or by combining it with anything else;
- not to use Counts in any generative AI model, or in any model or system that profiles, targets or makes predictions about an individual;
- not to sell, license or pass on Counts themselves to anyone else, though they may show figures drawn from Counts in their own products and services; and
- to delete Counts when the licence ends.
Within those limits, they may use Counts in their own reports, statistics and forecasts, such as of attendance or sessions.
7.3If a licence is broken.
If anyone breaks that licence, we will end their access to Counts, require them to delete every Count they hold, enforce the licence, and say so on the privacy page.
7.4Linking a cinema.
Once Stub offers it, you may Link a cinema in the App. While a Link is in place, that cinema may receive your own Visits at that cinema, and may use them only for your membership with it and for messages you have agreed to receive. The friends you went with reach it only as a number, unless they have Linked it too. You may remove a Link at any time.
7.5Flat fees.
Any fee a cinema pays us for Links is a flat fee for the feature, the same however many people Link it. No fee is worked out by reference to any person.
8Friends and the workshop table
8.1Only to people who’d want it.
Send plans, halves and invitations, and share drawers and cards, only with people you reasonably believe would want to receive them.
8.2As you’d say it to their face.
You must not use names, notes or any other Your Content to harass, demean or threaten anyone.
8.3A Visit you share.
When you share a Visit with someone, a copy goes into their Drawer and is theirs to keep.
8.4The workshop table is public.
What you post on the workshop table at keepthestub.app/workshop is public, shown with the name on your card and the day. Keep it about Stub, and kind. You may take down what you posted at any time.
8.5Keeping it in order.
We may move, answer or remove posts, including posts that aren’t about Stub, that are unkind, or that name or describe a person without their consent. Report a post from its sheet.
8.6An idea, given.
An idea or request you post doesn’t oblige us to make anything. If we make something like it, nothing is owed to you for it.
8.7Taking things down.
We may remove anything sent or posted through Stub that breaches these Terms.
9Acceptable use
9.1What you must not do.
You must not, and must not help or allow anyone else to:
- copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the App, its server, its interfaces or the website, or try to derive their source code, except as far as the law expressly allows despite this clause;
- access Stub, its server or any data held in it by automated means, including bots, scrapers, crawlers and scripts, or through any interface other than those we provide. Making and opening Add to Stub links in the format we publish is allowed;
- probe, scan or test the vulnerability of any system Stub uses, or get around any security, authentication or rate limit, unless we have agreed in writing. To report a security problem, write to the address in our security.txt;
- interfere with or disrupt Stub, place an unreasonable load on it, or get around any limit, block or suspension placed on an Account;
- create an Account by automated means or under false pretences, impersonate anyone, or use someone else’s Account;
- use Stub to send unsolicited messages, to harass, threaten or intimidate anyone, or to share anything unlawful or that infringes anyone’s rights;
- reproduce Stub’s cards, editions, designs or film book in another product or service, or use any part of Stub to build or improve a competing product or service;
- use anything obtained from Stub to Train AI; or
- sell, rent, sublicense or otherwise commercially exploit Stub or any part of it, except as these Terms or a written agreement with us allow.
9.2If you do.
If you breach clause 9.1, we may act under clause 13.
10Our rights in Stub
10.1Ours.
Stub, including its software, server, interfaces, website, designs, card and edition systems, film book, and the name Stub and its marks, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by law. Nothing in these Terms transfers any of these rights to you.
10.2Your licence to use Stub.
Subject to these Terms, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use Stub for your own non-commercial purposes.
10.3The cards.
You may keep and share the cards Stub makes from your Visits, for personal, non-commercial purposes. You must not use Stub’s name or marks in a way that suggests we endorse you or anything else.
10.4Feedback.
If you give us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without restriction and without any obligation to you.
10.5Films and cinemas.
Film titles, posters, cinema names and other marks belong to their owners. Stub isn’t affiliated with, or endorsed by, any film, cinema or ticketing company shown, unless we say so.
10.6Your work.
If you believe something in Stub infringes your copyright or other rights, write to us with what it is and where it appears. We will take it down while we look into it.
11Tickets and what’s on
11.1Bought from the cinema.
Book tickets opens the cinema’s own page. Tickets are bought from the cinema, under its terms. We are not a party to that purchase, and Stub takes no payment for it.
11.2What’s on can change.
Films, sessions and other cinema information in Stub come from what cinemas publish, and may change without notice. Check with the cinema before you go.
11.3What Stub reads.
Stub fills in a stub from what its ticket prints and the cinema’s own sessions confirm, and leaves empty what it can’t: a pass, an email or a screenshot may not carry a screen or a price. Check a stub before you keep it. A stub is your record of a Visit, not a ticket or a receipt.
12Email and notifications
12.1About your Account.
We email you about your Account when it’s needed, such as a sign-in code you asked for. These emails aren’t optional while you have an Account.
12.2News.
A new Account receives news from Stub by email now and then, as the sign-in says: what’s on at the cinema, what’s new in Stub, and offers. Each kind can be turned off on its own at Your card › Email notifications, or all of it with the link in any news email. An Account made before 26 October 2026 receives news only if it said yes.
12.3Offers.
Offers are sent by us. A cinema or another business may pay us to include its offer, and each says it is an offer. It never receives your email address or anything else about you. Turn Offers off at Your card › Email notifications and you receive none.
12.4On your phone.
Notifications reach your phone only if you allow them, and can be turned off at Your card › Push notifications.
13Suspending or closing an account
13.1You.
You may stop using Stub, and delete your Account, at any time.
13.2Us.
We may limit, suspend or close an Account if its holder breaches these Terms, puts anyone at risk, or attacks Stub.
13.3Told first, and why.
Before we act under clause 13.2, we will tell you the reason and how to respond, unless the law, or the safety of anyone or of Stub, requires us to act at once. A person reads every response you send.
13.4Your Drawer stays.
Closing an Account doesn’t touch your Drawer. It stays on your device and in your iCloud, and you can still export it (clause 6.7).
13.5What continues.
Clauses 6.5, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 and 18 continue after an Account is closed.
14Changes
14.1Stub will change.
Features may be added or withdrawn. Stub may come to include booking and paying for tickets, memberships and offers from cinemas you Link, group bookings and events, prints, optional paid extras, and products for the film industry made only from Counts and Links. Any of these may have Feature Terms (clause 1.5).
14.2Told 30 days ahead.
We will give you at least 30 days’ notice, in the App and on this page, of any material change to these Terms, saying what is changing and why.
14.3Your way out.
If you don’t agree to a change, you may delete your Account before it takes effect, and the change will not apply to you.
14.4Never backwards.
A change that weakens clause 3, or that widens what we keep or how we use it, applies to information we already hold only with your express agreement.
14.5Sooner, when it must be.
We may make a change sooner where the law or anyone’s safety requires it. We will tell you why.
14.6If Stub closes.
If we decide to close Stub, we will tell you in the App at least 30 days before. Accounts are then deleted, never sold as an asset, and your Drawer stays on your device.
15If Stub is sold
15.1Only with the promise.
We may transfer these Terms, and the information Accounts hold, only in a Sale of Stub, and only to a person who has first agreed in writing to be bound by clause 3 and this clause 15.
15.2Told 60 days ahead.
We will tell you in the App at least 60 days before a Sale of Stub is completed, and name the other party.
15.3Or deleted first.
If the other party does not agree, every Account and the information it holds will be deleted before the Sale of Stub is completed. Nothing that names anyone goes with it.
15.4Until then.
Until a Sale of Stub is completed, exporting your stubs and deleting your Account keep working, and your Drawer stays on your device.
15.5Your Account is yours alone.
You may not transfer your Account, or your rights under these Terms, to anyone else.
16Liability
16.1Your rights under consumer law.
Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right, remedy, guarantee, warranty or other term that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified, including under New Zealand’s Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Fair Trading Act 1986, the Australian Consumer Law, and the consumer law where you live. The rest of this clause 16 applies only as far as the law allows.
16.2As it is.
Stub is provided as it is and as available. We work to keep it running and your Drawer safe, and the App opens without our server, but we do not promise that Stub will be uninterrupted or free of errors, that a ticket will always be read correctly, or that film and session information is accurate.
16.3Others’ acts.
We are not responsible for anything a cinema, ticketing provider, payment provider, Apple, Google or any other third party does or fails to do, including the sale, refund or cancellation of a ticket.
16.4Indirect loss.
We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, opportunity, goodwill or data, however it arises. Keep your Drawer in iCloud, so it’s backed up.
16.5The most we owe.
Our total liability to you for all claims arising from or in connection with Stub, whether in contract, tort (including negligence) or otherwise, is limited to the greater of the total you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose and NZ$50.
16.6Beyond our control.
We are not liable for any failure or delay caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
16.7Using Stub for a business.
If you use Stub for the purposes of a business, the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply, and you agree that it is fair and reasonable that it does not.
16.8Misuse.
If you breach these Terms deliberately or negligently, and a claim is made against us as a result, you are responsible for our reasonable losses and costs arising from that claim, as far as the law allows.
17Disputes and the law
17.1Write to us first.
If you have a complaint or a dispute, please write to us first. We will respond within 30 days.
17.2New Zealand law.
These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. The courts of New Zealand may hear any dispute, and so may the courts of the place where you live, if the law of that place gives you that right.
17.3No private arbitration.
Nothing in these Terms requires you to resolve a dispute by arbitration, or stops you joining with others to bring a claim.
18General
18.1The whole agreement.
These Terms, any Feature Terms and the Apple EULA are the entire agreement between you and us about Stub.
18.2If part fails.
If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
18.3No waiver.
If we don’t enforce part of these Terms straight away, we may still enforce it later.
18.4Notices.
We may give you notices by email to the address on your Account, or in the App. You may give us notices by email to support@keepthestub.app.
18.5Only you and us.
Apart from Apple’s rights under the Apple EULA, these Terms give no rights to anyone other than you and us.
