What’s on the workshop table.
We’re making Stub in Auckland, a little more of it every week. This is what’s been made lately, what we’re thinking about next, and what we’ve decided against, and why. Ask for something, or say you want it too.
Stub is in beta. The first run is a hundred seats, until Sunday 29 November. The beta
What you’ve asked forMade6
Since the table went up on 28 October.
-
Friends who want the same film.
When you and a friend both pencil a film, you’re both told. Stub’s server never learns which film.
Bruno03 NOV 2026 -
Today.
Your friends and your next night with each, what’s changed near you, and what’s been kept on Stub this week.
Bruno03 NOV 2026 -
A year ago today.
On the day a night turns a year, Today brings its stub out of your drawer.
Bruno03 NOV 2026 -
Who’s in, without the app.
Asked to a night, you can say you’re in on the web, with just your first name.
Bruno03 NOV 2026 -
Your Letterboxd watchlist, in.
It becomes your list in Stub, and your list goes back out the same way.
Bruno02 NOV 2026 -
Pencil it in.
Mark the films you want to see. Stub tells you when one is on near you, and before its last session.

Where we’d like Stub to go. Not started yet.
-
Bring it here.
If enough people near a cinema pencil an old film, the cinema could be told. Ten people at least, never who, and only once we’ve written down how it leaves your phone.
-
Rare screenings.
Told when a film on your list plays in 70mm, or for one night only.
-
Your nights from Letterboxd.
Your diary, read on your phone. The films you saw at the cinema become stubs that say From Letterboxd. The watchlist came in first.
-
Thursday’s email.
What opens near you this week, and what’s about to leave.
-
Booking inside Stub.
Choosing your seats and paying without leaving Stub. For now, Book tickets opens the cinema’s own page, and Stub reads the confirmation when you’re done.
-
Your friends’ nights.
What your friends have kept lately. Today shows your friends, not their stubs, yet.
-
A chat for a plan.
For everyone going, from who’s booking to saving you a seat. We built one, then took it out to design it again.
-
Drawers kept together.
One drawer for a group, everyone filing their own nights into it. Built, and put away until it’s simpler.
-
Search your drawer.
For a drawer that has grown to a few hundred nights. What’s on can be searched already.
-
A share that turns over.
To show the ticket you were handed on the back of the card you share.
-
A cinema’s house style.
Cards printed from a cinema’s tickets in its own style, drawn from Stub’s inks and faces so it never breaks the design.
-
A cinema passport.
A stamp for every cinema you’ve been to.
-
Sound.
For opening a drawer, closing a folder and turning a year over. You can feel them already. You can’t hear them yet.
-
Stub on Android.
Your nights are kept on your account, so they could come with you.
Decided against7
And why.
-
Ads, or selling you.
Stub never shows an ad in the app and never sells you. App icons, bought once, help pay for it.
-
A cinema paying to be shown first.
What’s on is the same whether a cinema pays Stub or not.
-
Stars and reviews.
Letterboxd does that well. Stub keeps that you went, where, and who with.
-
Your card on a real table.
We built it in augmented reality, then took it out. Nobody leaving a film wants to hold their phone up to a table.
-
Changing parts of a card’s drawing.
We built a dial for it, and every change made the design worse. You act on the card instead: overprint it, stamp it.
-
Stickers, drawing, a colour picker.
Whatever you do to a card prints through a form it already has, in inks it already has.
-
Fake grain.
We took it out of the whole app. Warmth comes from colour, and texture only from real materials: cotton’s fibre, foil’s brushed lines.
From you.
Ideas from people who keep Stub. Say which ones you want. When we take one on, it goes up on the table.
House rules
- Keep it about Stub.
- Be kind.
- Name no one who hasn’t said you can.
- Report what breaks these. A person reads every report.
Nothing asked for yet. Write to us with what you’d like, and we’ll put it on the table.
We’d love to hear from you.
What you kept, what you’d change, what didn’t work for you. We’re making Stub every week, and what we hear goes into it.
